Civil Engineer / Water Main Field Inspector
MKM Engineering INC provides engineering and construction management services to the Chicago Department of Water Management (CDWM) in Chicago, Illinois. As part of the PCWP construction management team supporting the CDWM Capital Improvement Program, PCWP oversees inspection of water main and street restoration. The primary responsibility of the Civil engineer is to provide support to construction inspection team for CDWM water distribution infrastructure program. This position is responsible to assist field inspection team of new water main, status reporting and contractor-owner coordination. The civil engineer will help RE and CM team to resolution of technical issues related to construction of related facilities. Since a significant portion of the position involves communication with internal and external team members and stakeholders, strong written and verbal communication skills are critical to success. Additionally, the position requires a high level of ability to process and maintain documentation related to field conditions and construction contractor activities.
Responsibilities:
· Participate and conducting client, contractor and field inspector’s meetings, creating agendas, writing minutes, coordinating times and locations in case RE is not available
· Evaluate and support timely resolution of project technical conflicts, during engineering evaluation and construction with the help of field engineers
· Updating utility issue and possibly attending utility coordination meetings
· Enforce conformance to applicable CDWM policies and standards for construction projects.
· Emergency management
· Assigning projects/packet pickups/updating inspector assignment data base
· Assisting the closeout group (punch list review, punch list signoff)
· Coordination with internal CDWM teams
· Miscellaneous paperwork review (NCN review, PCM review, permit review, writing letters)
· Assist the RE from project initiation to end life cycle and projects status tracking.
Necessary Abilities and Skills:
· Construction experience with utility infrastructure work.
· Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel.
. Experience with the interpretation of utility records/maps.
· Familiarity with scheduling P6 or Microsoft Project
Personal Qualifications
· Work in fast-paced environment
· Ability to commute to/from multiple work sites.
Professional Qualifications:
· B.S. Construction Management or B.S. Civil Engineering -
· High school diploma or equivalent with 5 years of experience in construction field.
